Matthew Sprange            Baritone

Matthew recently made his Linbury Theatre debut in English Touring Opera's Olivier Award winning production of Britten's Paul Bunyan. He sang the role of Pietro (Simon Boccanegra) for ETO last year, and has worked for companies including Welsh National Opera (covering Figaro Le nozze di Figaro and Guglielmo Cosi fan tutte), Scottish Opera (performing in a one man show set in a lighthouse), and Mid Wales Opera (the roles of Sid in Albert Herring & Yamadori in Madam Butterfly).

Other engagements include Marcello (La bohème) for Vignette Productions, Charles Court Opera and Lyric Opera, Dublin, Figaro (Opera à la carte) and Germont Père (cover) for Iford Opera.

Whilst studying on the opera course at GSMD, he worked with British Youth Opera during three summers; covering Mr. Gedge (Albert Herring) and Minskman (Jonathan Dove's Flight), and performing Schaunard (La bohème) in the summer of 2010. His student roles at GSMD included Sid and Eustachio (Donizetti's L'assedio di Calais).

Other recent engagements include an opera gala with Sir John Tomlinson and the Orchestra of the Royal Opera House, and the role of Leporello (Don Giovanni) with Diva Opera. He began his vocal studies with Wynford Evans and continues to study with John Evans.
